IGNITING TEENS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The El Paso Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® invites you to nominate a teen with a passion to educate, volunteer and contribute to the fight against breast cancer and represent your school as a member of Teens for the Cure®. Our Teens for the Cure Committee is essential in raising awareness about a disease that knows no boundaries and while rare, also impacts the lives of young men and women.
A special initiative of the El Paso Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, Teens for the Cure® was founded in 2004 by a group of teens who joined together to help Komen create a world without breast cancer. Many of our teens know the fear and disruption caused by a breast cancer diagnosis in their families. Others have felt the impact of the disease via their friends’ families. Through our focus on fundraising, awareness and education, Teens for the Cure empowers teenagers with the knowledge that they can make a difference… the confidence to take action… and the very real hope of an end to breast cancer in their lifetime. The visibility and efforts of Teens for the Cure has steadily grown throughout the years. Last year, the Teens raised money in support of the El Paso Komen Affiliate’s local funding of breast cancer education, screening, treatment, and national breast cancer research.
To nominate a student we ask that you please complete the attached form. In addition, I would like to ask that your nominee submit a 250-word essay titled, “Why I Want to Join Teens for the Cure”. Please submit all requirements by October 1, 2011, via mail, fax or email as provided on the Nomination Form.
There is much more work to be done to eradicate breast cancer. While breast cancer remains the leading type of cancer among women, we must not rest. Young people play a vital role in the fight against breast cancer and we need your assistance in nominating a teen interested in making a difference.
